Course Details

Your child’s journey into robotics starts here! Robotics I is our introductory course into the world of robotics. Kids will be introduced to fundamental concepts in engineering and programming which will set the foundation of challenges to come. In this course we tackle topics like:

  • - Load distribution
  • - Basic bot building
  • - Gears
  • - Motors
  • - Mechanical Advantage
  • - Steering theory
  • - Programming basics and logic
  • - End Effectors (Robotic Arm)

Requirements

Age: Children must be at least 8 years old to participate in this course

Day 1

Load Distribution

  • - Understand the concept and purpose of load distribution.
  • - Apply knowledge gained in practical challenges.
  • - Build bridges to demonstrate load distribution.
  • - Weights are used to test the integrity of structures built.

Basic bot building

  • - Understand building diagrams and schematics.
  • - Build the standard lego robot using schematics.

Day 2

Programming basics

  • - Understand programming logic, programming blocks and code.
  • - Understand how to transfer code to the robot.

Day 3

Gears

  • - Introduction to gears.
  • - Understand mechanical advantage and how gears work to achieve this.
  • - Apply gear theory to challenges.

Motors

  • - Introduction to Motors.
  • - Understand the basic of components of a motors.
  • - Introduction to Ampere’s Law.
  • - How Motors work.

Day 4

Steering

  • - Introduction to Steering.
  • - Understand the different types of steering.
  • - Understand the different types of turns.
  • - Apply knowledge to complete steering challenge.

Day 5

End Effector

  • - Introduction to End Effectors.
  • - Design and construction of End Effectors.
  • - End Effector LEGO build.
  • - Attachment to our Robots.
  • - Balance issues.
  • - Apply knowledge gained to practical challenge.

Uncle Hayden has over 20 years experience in the field of electronics and computer science. He has attained certification in Telephony and Communications and is MCP certified. Uncle Hayden joined the Wepala family in 2017 and is an avid fan of the EV3 Robots. He especially enjoys working with kids, as they offer a blank canvas with which to work.
